Standing tall, pt 2

The world offers its own version of self‑worth, but it is still centred on the self. It tells us to be strong, smart, attractive, successful, independent, and confident in our own abilities. But God’s way is different. Romans 12 teaches us that our value is separated from our works. True humility does not make us think less of ourselves; it makes us think of ourselves less. We become what God intended, not what culture demands. Our identity is not built on performance but on grace. The world says, “Believe in yourself.” God says, “Believe in Me — and know that I believe in what I am forming in you.”

Our faith in ourselves is unstable, but God’s faithfulness is unchanging. He finishes what He starts. He is committed to completing the work He began in us.

God is not nervous about our weaknesses or surprised by our struggles.

This is why the Father in Luke 15 runs toward the returning son. Not because the son is impressive, but because the Father’s heart is full of belief, hope, and love. The Father restores value before He restores behaviour. He places a robe, a ring, and sandals on a son who has done nothing to earn them. This is the ministry of the church: to give people back their true value, not by listing their failures but by revealing the Father’s heart.

A healthy self‑image grows in the soil of God’s love. It grows when we humble ourselves under what God says about us, rather than under what our feelings or past experiences say. It grows when we stop being trapped inside our own wounds and begin to live outward in generosity, service, and trust. It grows when we refuse to build our identity on social pressure, status, or performance. It grows when we believe in God’s goodness more than in our own ability.

A healthy self‑image grows when we accept that God’s view of us is more stable than our view of ourselves.

And so we come to the promise — a promise strong enough to hold the weight of any life: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.” No one ever misses out by putting God first. A healthy self‑image is not loud or proud. It is peaceful, rooted, confident in God, and able to stand tall — not because of personal strength, but because of divine support. You are upheld. You are strengthened. You are helped. You are never alone. And in the hands of the Father, you are never “just a” anything. You are His.
